Cawar-Locator

Locating users within mobile networks - Tracking and Navigation

Cawar Locator is part of the Cawar@Campus project. Cawar@Campus is implementing a virtual infrastructure at Campus Garching, making it very easy to implement location based and context aware services.

Directly connected to the Cawar Locator is the Cawar Navigator. With Cawar Navigator users can very easily navigate the building. Cawar Navigator is generating maps based upon an abstract model of the Campus. Maps may be zoomed or special points of interest may be painted in colour. An example of such a point may be the location of a chair.

A user is carrying his mobile device equipped with a WLAN connection. He just has to connect to the web via a http proxy. Location information is passed to a webserver, if the server is on a white list. The webserver generates information based upon the location of the user and passes this information back to the mobile device.

Another option is to integrate a map of the Cawar Navigator on the website. In this scenario no location information is passed to the webserver at all. The website includes a reference to a map, may pass parameters for points of interest coordinates to the Navigator, which then generates the map, including the actual position of the user.
